ARIIA stands for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements. It is an innovative initiative the Ministry of Education, Government of India introduced. ARIIA is implemented by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell. ARIIA aims to rank the major higher education institutions across India. The initiative was launched in 2019. It witnessed the participation of 496 renowned institutions in its first edition.

ARIIA Ranking 2022

  • Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) topped the overall ARIIA 2022 rankings for the third consecutive year.
  • IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay were ranked second and third, respectively.
  • The rankings are based on a number of indicators, including:
    • the number of patents filed, 
    • the number of startups incubated and 
    • the amount of funding raised by startups.
  • The rankings promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Indian higher education institutions.
  • In addition to the overall rankings, the ARIIA rankings also include category-wise rankings for institutions. The top-ranked institutions in each category are as follows:
    • University category: Indian Institute of Technology Madras
    • Engineering College category: Indian Institute of Technology Madras

What is the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA)?

The Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) is a venture by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. It is aimed at systematically ranking prominent higher educational institutions and universities across India. This ranking evaluates indicators associated with "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development'' among students and faculties. The first edition of ARIIA was introduced in 2019.

Major Features of ARIIA 

Some salient features of the ARIIA Ranking are listed below:

  • ARIIA metrics use global standards to rank innovation output.
  • It also measures India-specific parameters suiting local education.
  • Parameters are organized under 7 broad indicators with sub-heads.
  • Each main indicator is assigned an overall weight.
  • Sub-heads have appropriate weight distribution within each.
  • Data needed to score each sub-head is identified.
  • Emphasis on easy data from institutions or verifiable third parties.
  • The overall score out of 100 is calculated using weights.
  • Institutions are ranked based on their scores.
