An IPS officer bears immense responsibilities. Therefore, an aspirant needs to be physically fit and mentally agile to handle the demanding nature of the job. Apart from preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Exam, candidates should also focus on their fitness. A well-planned fitness regimen can help candidates pass the fitness test with ease. Here are some steps to follow to prepare for the fitness and medical test of IPS.
Step 1
Familiarize yourself with the physical and medical requirements for IPS and the components of the physical fitness test.
Step 2
Consult a doctor before starting your fitness regimen. They can help you devise a suitable fitness plan. You can also consider joining a gym or hiring a physical trainer for guided exercise routines.
Step 3
Start preparing for the physical test well in advance. Gradually build your stamina and fitness level and allow ample time to shed any excess weight.
Step 4
Incorporate activities like aerobics, walking, jogging, swimming, etc., in your routine for good blood circulation and overall health.

Exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups are crucial for the physical fitness test. Practice these regularly, gradually increasing the sets. Time your workouts as candidates are tested on how many of these exercises they can do per minute.
Step 6
For the running segment of the test, start by walking five times a week and then progress to jogging. Each week, try to cover the distance in less time, with the aim to run at a faster pace.
Step 7
For the weight lifting segment of the test, start lifting the required weight and gradually add 5 lbs. each week until you can lift the maximum weight required for the test.
