Purpose of the Sparsh Yojana

The aim of this scholarship is to foster an interest in Philately among children from a young age. This interest not only complements their academic studies, but also serves as a relaxing hobby that aids in stress management.

Selection Criteria:

  • Selection is carried out through a competitive process across all postal circles.
  • Each class from VI to IX will have a maximum of 10 selected students.
  • The scholarship amount is set at Rs. 6000 per annum.
  • Selection is based on performance in a Philately Quiz and evaluation of a Philately project.
  • To be eligible, a student must be part of a recognized school in India with a Philately Club and must be a member of this club.
  • If a school does not have a Philately Club, students with their own Philately Deposit Account will also be considered for the scholarship.

Each participating school will be assigned a Philately mentor, chosen from renowned Philatelists. This mentor will guide the establishment of a school-level Philately club, mentor aspiring Philatelists, and assist with Philately projects.

What is Philately?

Philately is more than just collecting postage stamps. It involves appreciation, research, and understanding of stamps and other philatelic products. This hobby offers significant educational benefits as it provides insight into the socio-economic and political context of the time when the stamp was issued or its theme.
