Perched in the serene hills of Mussoorie, LBSNAA was founded in 1959 to train civil servants. The academy was born out of a merger between the IAS Training School, Delhi and the IAS Staff College in Shimla. In July 1973, it was renamed after the country’s second Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. The academy is a hub for research and training in public policy and public administration. It caters primarily to IAS, IPS, IFS, and Indian Revenue Service probationers. It is managed and operated by the Government of India. The current Director of the Academy is Sriram Taranikanti.
