The Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations of the United Nations was instituted on 18th February 1965, under Resolution 2006 (XIX).

Major Contributors to UN Peacekeeping Operations

As of June 2019, over 1 lakh individuals are serving in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, a majority of whom are military personnel, and they are supported by civilians and volunteers. Countries such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are among the highest individual contributors. African nations contribute approximately half of the military personnel in the UN peacekeeping operations.

  1. As of 2020, there are 13 active UN Peacekeeping Missions
  2. These missions are spread across three continents; Asia, Africa and Europe, with the majority being in Africa.
  3. More than 120 countries contribute troops, police and civilian personnel for UN peacekeeping missions.
