How does the WCCF Function?

The WCCF functions through collaboration among its members, facilitated via a range of events including themed symposia, regional summits, and workshops. These events contribute to the annual World Cities Culture Summit. Held in a different member city each year, this unique gathering allows city leaders to exchange ideas and knowledge about the role of culture in shaping sustainable future cities.

The Importance of WCCF

With rapid urbanization, it is estimated that by 2030, two-thirds of the world’s population will reside in cities. Governments are grappling with increasingly complex challenges due to this swift change. Many key policy issues of our time, from addressing climate change to promoting social equality, are being tackled at the city level rather than the national level.

As urban populations continue to grow, city leaders face the challenge of maintaining their city’s unique character, attracting businesses and skilled jobs, and remaining resilient and adaptable in the face of change. Members of the WCCF share the belief that culture is the key to their future as sustainable urban centers.
