Permitted Items in the UPSC Mains Examination Centre

UPSC lays down crucial instructions with the e-admit card . Candidates must peruse these instructions carefully and abide by them. Non-compliance with the instructions can lead to disciplinary actions including cancellation of candidature for that examination and debar the candidate from all future examinations or selections by the Union Public Service Commission.

Candidates are advised to carry the following items to the examination centre on the day of examination:

  • Black Ballpoint Pen
  • Admit card (carry an extra copy for contingency)
  • ID Proof (Aadhar Card, Driving Licence, Passport, Voter’s ID Card etc)
  • 2 passport size photographs
  • Pencil (optional, but handy for rough work)

Candidates are also expected to adhere to the IAS COVID-19 guidelines specified in the instructions. Besides these instructions, candidates should regularly check the official website of the Union Public Service Commission for any updates or notifications related to the IAS Exam

Prohibited Items in the UPSC Examination Centre for UPSC Mains Exam

Candidates are strictly advised not to carry the following items to the examination centre on the day of preliminary or main examination :

  • Mobile phones (even if switched off)
  • Any electronic equipment/programmable device/storage media like:
    • Pen drive
    • Smart watches
    • Camera
    • Bluetooth devices etc

Note: These electronic/programmable devices are also not permitted in the UPSC premises during the Personality Test (Interview). Candidates are advised not to carry any valuable/expensive items to the examination centres as their safety cannot be guaranteed and the Commission will not be responsible for any loss.
