The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award: A Symbol of Scientific Excellence

  • The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, one of the most prestigious scientific honors in the country, has announced its latest recipients. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Science and Technology, which selected 11 awardees across seven different scientific fields.
  • In the category of biological science, the award will be conferred upon Dr. Suresh Kumar from the Indian Institute of Advanced Research, Gandhinagar, and Dr. Mohan Singh from the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow.
  • From the sphere of earth, atmosphere, ocean, and planetary sciences, Dr. Arvind Kumar from the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Mumbai was selected. Meanwhile, in the field of engineering sciences, the award is set to be received by Dr. Pradeep Kumar from IIT Madras.
  • The field of mathematical sciences saw Dr. Raghavendra Singh from the Chennai Mathematical Institute being honored. Similarly, Dr. Nitin Saxena from the Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad, was chosen from the field of mathematical sciences.
  • In the medical science category, the award was bestowed upon Dr. Anurag Agrawal from the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi.
  • The physical sciences category saw Dr. Amol Dighe from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, and Dr. Vijay Shenoy from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, being selected.
  • Lastly, in the category of chemical sciences, Dr. Swadhin Mandal from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, and Dr. Sakya Singha Sen from the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, were chosen.

Dr. Jacob Tsimerman: The Recipient of the SASTRA Prize

  • Jacob Tsimerman, a distinguished mathematician from the University of Toronto, Canada, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2015 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize.
  • The award will be presented during the International Conference on Number Theory held at SASTRA University in Tamil Nadu’s Kumbakonam, the hometown of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
  • The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize, established in 2005, is an annual award given to young mathematicians who have made significant contributions in areas influenced by Srinivasa Ramanujan.
  • The age limit for the prize is set at 32, reflecting the brief but incredibly productive life of Ramanujan.
