The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil services exam is one of the toughest competitive exams in India. Unconventional Choices: Successful UPSC Candidates Who Didn't Join Civil Services
Jairam Ramesh
A renowned Indian economist and politician, Ramesh cleared the UPSC exam but did not join the civil services. Instead, he pursued his interest in economics and went on to serve as the Union Minister for Rural Development in the UPA government.
Arvind Kejriwal
The current Chief Minister of Delhi, Kejriwal is a former Indian Revenue Service officer. He cleared the UPSC exam but resigned from his service to enter politics and fight against corruption.
Raghuram Rajan
The former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Rajan cleared the UPSC exam but chose not to join the civil services. He pursued his passion for economics and has made significant contributions to the field.
Pranay Swaroop
Swaroop cleared the UPSC exam and was selected for the Indian Police Service. However, he resigned from his post to pursue his passion for filmmaking and is now a successful filmmaker in the Telugu film industry.
Nandini KR
The topper of UPSC Civil Services Exam 2016, Nandini KR chose not to join the services. Instead, she opted to continue with her passion for teaching and is currently an educator.
