The BPSC Exam is conducted for multiple posts. Bihar Public Service Commission conducts Combined Competitive Examination to select eligible candidates as per the posts. To get selected in BPSC candidates have to undergo two written examinations i.e. prelims, and mains followed by an interview.
- The preliminary examination has only one section whereas the mains examination consists of 4 sections in which an optional subject is given as per the candidates to select.
- There are a total of 34 optional subjects available, among them, Economics is chosen by many candidates but to prepare for that subject they lack syllabus.

Those who have opted for Economics as the optional subject for the mains examination should know the whole BPSC Economics Optional Syllabus which is listed below. There are two sections in the syllabus of Economics. Section I consists of International Economics and Section II Indian Economics.
Section- I
- The Structure of an Economy, National Income Accounting.
- Economic choice, Consumer behavior. Producer behavior and market forms.
- Investment decisions and determination of income and employment, Microeconomic models of income, distribution, and growth.
- Banking objectives and means of Central Banking and credit policies in a planned developing economy. Performance of Commercial Banks in Bihar.
- Type of taxes and their impacts on the economy. The content of budgets. Objectives and Tools of budgetary & fiscal policy in a planned developing economy.
- International trade, Tariffs.
- The rate of exchange
- The balance of payments.
- International monetary and banking institutions.

1: The Indian Economy:
- Culling principles of Indian economic planned growth and Distributive Justice’ Eradication of poverty.
- The institutional framework of the Indian economy – federal Governmental structure – agricultural and industrial sector public and private sectors.
- National income is sectoral and regional distribution. Extent and incidence of poverty.
2: Agricultural Production:
- Agricultural Policy.
- Land reforms.
- Technological change.
- Relationship with the industrial sector.
3: Industrial Production:
- Industrial Policy.
- Public and private sector.
- Regional distribution.
- Control of monopolies and monopolistic practices.
4: Pricing Policies of agricultural and industrial outputs:
- Procurement and Public Distribution.
5: Budgetary trends and fiscal policy
6: Monetary, credit trends, and policy
- Banking, and other financial institutions.
7: Foreign trade and the balance of payments.
8: Indian Planning:
- Objectives, strategy, experience, and problems.
9: Bihar Economy:
- The relative position of agriculture and industry

To begin the BPSC exam preparation it is must be well versed with the BPSC syllabus and exam pattern to know the distribution of marks and time for each section. The optional subject is asked only in the mains exams, the table below shows the mains exam pattern.
