India Youth Development Index Rankings

The IYDI was created by The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. This index monitors youth development trends across Indian states, helping the government identify high and low-performing states, pinpoint weak domains, and guide policymakers in determining priority areas for youth development.

The 2017 IYDI kept the first five dimensions of the Global YDI but revised the weights and indicators based on state-level data and the importance of indicators in representing Youth Development. The Global YDI differs from the IYDI in one significant way: the IYDI includes an additional domain of social inclusion to assess the inclusiveness of societal progress, a pertinent aspect in India where structural inequalities persist. This feature aids in identifying the gaps that require intensified policy intervention and in acknowledging the progress made.
