Key Highlights of World Sustainable Development Summit 2018

The WSDS is a follow-up of the erstwhile Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute, a non-profit organisation leading research in energy, environment, and sustainable development. The inaugural DSDS took place in 2005, focussing on poverty alleviation and the swift and sustainable adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  1. WSDS 2018 aimed to expedite actions towards sustainable development and climate change mitigation.
  2. The central theme of the event was 'Partnerships for a Resilient Planet'.
  3. The 2018 edition took place at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi and was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India.
  4. The summit strived to formulate action plans to address climate change challenges in developing economies.
  5. The event saw the attendance of over 2000 delegates, including diplomats from around the world, corporates, think tanks, researchers, policymakers, and others.
  6. The World Sustainable Development Summit 2018 focused on a plethora of issues such as renewable energy, sustainability, sustainable transportation, carbon markets, and more.
  7. Discussions were held around creating financial mechanisms for effective climate change mitigation, creating an environment conducive for the transition to clean energy, better resource exploitation, enhancing energy efficiency, tackling pollution and its effects, among others.
