The Indian Space Research Organization ( ISRO ) embarked on an experimental mission called the Advanced Technology Vehicle in 2016. This mission was integral to the development of the Air Breathing Propulsion System. With the ATV mission, India became the 4th country to successfully develop Air Breathing Scramjet Engine Technology. The Scramjet engine designed by ISRO uses Hydrogen as fuel and Atmospheric Air as an Oxidizer. This engine can achieve a hypersonic speed of Mach 6.
The Advanced Technology Vessel is different from the Advanced Technology Vehicle. It is a Nuclear Powered Attack Submarine project undertaken by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Indian Navy, and other Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) and Private Industries. This project was responsible for the development of India’s Arihant Class Nuclear Attack Submarines, which took 25 years to complete.
