BPSC English Language & Literature Syllabus 2023

The Bihar Public Service Commission has released the English Language & Literature syllabus for the BPCS exam. Candidates can check the below-mentioned BPSC English Language & Literature syllabus for the same:

Section 1
  • Detailed study of a literary age (19 th century).
  • The paper will cover the study of English literature from 1798 to 1900 with special reference to the works of Wordsworth. Coleridge, Shelley, Keats, Lamb, Hazlitr. Thackeray, Dickens, Tennyson, Robert Browning Arnold, George Eliot, Caryle Ruskin, Peter.
  • Evidence of first–hand reading will be required. The paper will be designed to test not only the candidate’s knowledge of the authors prescribed but also their understanding of the main literary trends during the period. Questions having a bearing on the social and cultural background of the period may be included.
Section 2  This Paper will require first- hand reading of the texts prescribed and will be designed to test a candidate’s critical ability.

  • Milton – Paradise Lost.

BPSC English Language & Literature Exam Pattern 2023

The candidates appearing for the BPSC exam must be well aware of the exam pattern before beginning their preparations. The BPSC Exam Pattern is given in detail below:

Preliminary Examination

  • The BPSC preliminary examination will be qualifying in nature consisting of only one paper of General Studies carrying a weightage of 150 marks.
  • This BPSC exam will be conducted for 2 hours.
  • There is no negative marking in the BPSC examination.

Mains Examination

  • The mains exam will be held for a total of 900 marks.
  •  The BPSC main examination includes 4 papers which are 1 paper of General Hindi, 2 papers of General Studies, and 1 optional paper chosen by the candidates.
  • The BPSC exam will be subjective in nature and can be attempted in English, Hindi or Urdu according to one’s preference.
