Step-by-step Guide to Fill the Online DAF for UPSC Main Exam
Procedure to Fill DAF UPSC
It is recommended for candidates to thoroughly read the Rules of the Examinations mentioned in the Gazette of India, which includes eligibility criteria among other things, before filling the form.
Important Points to Remember While Filling the Form
- Candidates who have qualified in the prelims exam are required to log onto the UPSC official website www.upsc.gov.in and fill up the Online Detailed Application Form.
- Ensure that all the columns are filled accurately. The Commission will not allow any changes to the entries made while filling the Online Detailed Application Form after submission.
- The UPSC DAF 2020 should be filled between 28th October and 11 November 2020 (before 6 PM).

How to Fill UPSC Form 2021?
While filling the registration module, candidates should ensure to fill all the details correctly, such as:
- Name – as recorded in the matriculation/ secondary examination certificate
- Roll Number – in six-digit format
- Date of Birth- as recorded in the matriculation/secondary examination certificate
- E-mail address – a valid email address should be provided as the login credentials will be sent to this email address. The commission may also use this email for future correspondence with the candidates.
It is essential for candidates to fill all the mandatory fields in the DAF for UPSC Mains 2020.
- After filling all the details, click on the submit button. A message will appear on the screen with the candidate’s name, email address and a password will be sent to the candidate’s e-mail address.
- Next, candidates should revisit the UPSC official website and log in to the module with their roll number and password.
- The ONLINE DAF (Detailed Application Form) consists of 6 modules, which are:
- Personal Information
- Educational Information
- Parental Information
- Employment Information
- Upload documents
- Final Submission
- After filling each module, candidates should save it. Changes can be made in any module before the final submission of the DAF. However, once the final submission is done, candidates will not be able to make any changes online.
- Candidates are required to upload scanned copies of essential documents such as:
- Proof of Age
- Educational Qualification
- Community Certificate
- PH Certificate etc.
- And, other required documents as mentioned in the Instructions to Candidates for filling in the Detailed Application Form.

Note:
Some fields in the online form are pre-populated using the information provided by the candidate while filling the Online Application Form for the Written Examination/Preliminary Written Examination. These fields include candidate’s name, Date of Birth, Father’s name, Mother’s name, email address, Physically Challenged category, Disability percentage etc. These fields cannot be altered by the candidate.
However, if a candidate discovers any error/discrepancy in these fields, they may make a separate detailed demonstration to the Commission along with all relevant documents, in support of their claim. The Commission will resolve each such case on merit and its decision in such cases shall be final.
