Instructions for Filling the UPSC IAS Application Form 2023

The notification for the UPSC CSE 2023 will be released on 1st February 2023. Candidates wishing to appear for the exam can start filling out the application form from this date. Before applying for the Civil Services (Preliminary)/Indian Forest Services (Preliminary) Examination, candidates are advised to verify their eligibility (minimum educational qualification, age limit, etc.) as mentioned in the official examination notice available on the Commission’s website.

Prerequisites for Filling UPSC Application Form

To fill out the UPSC CSE Application Form 2023, candidates will need the following:

  1. Active Mobile Number/ Contact Number
  2. Active Email Address
  3. Details from the Graduation certificate
  4. Recent Passport size photograph of the applicant
  5. Scanned image of the applicant's signature
  6. A valid Photo ID in scanned format

Procedure to Fill UPSC CSE 2023 Application Form

The online application form consists of two parts – Part I and Part II. The following are the steps to fill out the UPSC CSE 2023 Application form:

Part I

The steps to fill out the Part I registration form are as follows:

Step 1 Visit the official website www.upsconline.nic.in or upsc.gov.in to access the latest notifications released by the commission.
Step 2 Click on the 'Apply Online' link located on the right-side panel of the Home page.
Step 3 Click on 'Online Application for Various Examinations', then select 'Online Application for various examinations of UPSC'.
Step 4 Click on the 'Part I registration' link. You will see important instructions for filling out the online application form. Make sure to read all the instructions carefully before proceeding.
Step 5 After reading the instructions, click 'Yes' and the Part I registration page will appear. Here, you will need to fill in personal details such as Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, Nationality, Address, etc.
Step 6 Next, fill in your educational qualifications and contact details.
Step 7 Fill in the details of your photo identity, the number of attempts you've made, marks obtained in graduation, and the centre for the prelims exam.
Step 8 After filling in these details, you can preview the application and edit it at this stage if necessary. Note that UPSC does not allow editing after the final submission of the application.
Step 9 After previewing, click 'Submit'. Upon completion of Part I registration, you will receive a registration ID. Make sure to note down the RID for future references.

Part II

The steps to fill out the Part-II registration form are as follows:

Step 1 Use the registration ID received after completing Part I to proceed with Part II of the application.
Step 2 Log in using the RID and your date of birth to continue with Part-II registration.
Step 3 Pay the application fee using either online or offline mode/ Pay by Cash mode through SBI Challan.
Step 4 Select your preferred centre for the prelims exam.
Step 5 Upload all the required documents:
  1. Photograph in JPG format – 20 KB to 300 KB
  2. Signature in JPG format – 20 KB to 300 KB
  3. Photo ID in PDF format – 20 KB to 300 KB
Step 6 Click 'Upload' after uploading all the documents in the prescribed size format.
Step 7 A final declaration will appear on the screen after step 6, check the box and submit the application.
Step 8 After the final submission, a confirmation message for completion of the application will be received on your registered mobile number and email address. This confirms that you have successfully completed and submitted the application.
