UPSC IES ISS Eligibility 2025: Age Limit & Qualification

For the aspirants, it is mandatory to know the details of eligibility criteria who are wishing to attend the UPSC IES ISS examination. If the candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria he cannot apply for the UPSC IES ISS examination. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has released 47 vacancies. The candidates should be aware of age, nationality, minimum education qualification required to get recruited in the post. The candidates who have applied for the UPSC IES/ISS examination, age should be between 21-30 years. However, if the candidate qualifies the written exam he may be rejected in the interview round if he does not authentically satisfy the eligibility criteria.

UPSC IES ISS Eligibility 2025

The Indian Economic Service/India Statistical Service exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and is open to Indian citizens aged between 21 to 30 years. Additionally, candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetans who came to India before January 1, 1962, to settle permanently, are also eligible. General category candidates are allowed a maximum of six attempts to clear the exam.

UPSC IES ISS Age Limit

Age is the major criterion where the higher authorities are going to look. The candidate who has applied for the UPSC IES ISS 2025 examination should not be below the age of 21 and should not be more than 30. 

UPSC IES ISS Age Relaxation

The age relaxation is given in the category wise by the UPSC officially the following are the age relaxation for the candidate’s category wise.

Note- 

  • The candidate needs to show the SSC marks sheet or any other Educational certificate as proof of age.
  • If there is no Educational Certificate the candidate needs to show the Birth Certificate or Category Certificate as proof of age

Minimum Educational Qualification

Indian Economic Service

  • The candidate must have a Postgraduate Degree with Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from the university which is recognized by the government
  • The candidates who have attempted for the final examination and are waiting for the result also can apply.
  • A candidate (fulfilling the nationality criteria)  who has minimum qualifications but taken the degree from the foreign university can also apply.

Indian Statistical Service

  • The candidate must have minimum Bachelors/Masters degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from the university which is recognized by the government
  • The candidates who have attempted for the final examination and are waiting for the result also can apply.
  • A candidate who has minimum qualifications but taken the degree from the foreign university can also apply.

Note:

In Exceptional Cases, UPSC has none of the foregoing qualifications as a qualified candidate provided that the candidate has passed examination conducted by the other institutions the standard of which in the opinion of the commission. Justifies his/her admission.

UPSC IES ISS Nationality

The nationality is the first aspect seen by the higher authorities and will proceed with the candidate for the further rounds.

The candidate must be an Indian citizen or

a) A Subject from Nepal or

b) A Subject From Bhutan or

c) A Tibetian who came over India before 1st January 1962 who intended to settle in India Permanently.

d) The candidates who migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia Ethiopia, Vietnam, Burma to settle in India permanently.

For the candidates, a, b, c, d; an eligibility certificate had been issued by the government.

UPSC IES ISS Physical Eligibility

The candidates who applied for the UPSC IES/ISS examination must be physically fit as per regulations as per UPSC. 

UPSC IES ISS Number of Attempts

The candidate can appear for UPSC IES/ISS examination 6 times for the general category and for OBC it is 9 times and there is no limit for SC/St candidates. The candidate needs to attend the examination by satisfying all the eligibility criteria like age, nationality, minimum educational qualification criteria.
