IBPS PO Exam Pattern 2024: Check Prelims & Mains Exam Pattern

The IBPS PO is an important exam that aspirants want to clear for entry into the Banking sector. Every year lakhs of candidates register for this competitive exam. • The IBPS PO prelims exam is conducted for 100 marks in a duration of 1 hour.
• The IBPS PO mains exam is conducted for 225 marks. IBPS has notified that 3 sections of mains exam will be divided into two parts i.e. Section A & B and it will be compulsory to attempt all the questions of both the sections.
• Also, note that some questions in the mains exam will be of 1 mark and some will be of 2 marks.

IBPS PO Exam Pattern 2024

Before starting the preparation go through the exam pattern. Every aspect of the IBPS PO exam pattern is explained in detail, have a look at the following section.

• Candidates have around 60 minutes to complete their prelims paper.
• Candidates will have around 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the Mains paper.
• A negative marking of 0.25 will be deducted for each wrong answer.
• The interview will be 20-30 minutes long.

IBPS PO Prelims Exam Pattern

IBPS PO Prelims conducted in an online mode. IBPS PO Prelims Exam Pattern consist of there will be three sections i.e.-

1. English Language
2. Numerical Ability
3. Reasoning Ability

English will carry 30 marks, Quantitative Aptitude will carry 35 marks and Reasoning will carry 35 marks. The total duration of the Prelims exams will be 60 minutes. Candidates are expected to clear the sectional cut-off so that they qualify for the IBPS PO Mains examination.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern

For IBPS PO Mains, candidates have to appear for Reasoning, Economy, English, Data Interpretation, and Letter & Essay writing. Reasoning will carry 60 marks, Economy will carry 40 marks, the English language will carry 40 marks, Data Interpretation will carry 60 marks and the English language (Essay & Letter Writing) will be 25 marks. The total marks will be 200+25 = 225 and the total duration will be 180 minutes + 30 minutes = 210 minutes (3 hours 30 minutes). The candidates must qualify the Mains to qualify for the Interview.

Major Changes

• Reasoning, English Language & Data Analysis & Interpretation sections will be divided into two parts in the mains exam i.e. Section A & Section B.
• All questions in both the sections i.e. A & B will be compulsory to attempt.
• Some questions will be of 1 mark & some questions will be of 2 marks and 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Tip: It is really important to focus on the grammar section when answering the descriptive questions.

IBPS PO Interview 2024

Candidates who have qualified for the mains exams will be called for a personal interview. The date of the interview will be announced after the IBPS PO mains exam is over. The personal interview will be off 100 marks. Candidates have to score at least 40% marks to get on the merit list. After the interview round is over, IBPS will display the merit list on the official website.
